The Best of 1958

1958 was a very good year for music. Not only was a new genre called rock & roll in full swing, but classic albums in the genres of jazz, blues, country and soul were released that still stand the test of time.

Some of the big news of 1958:

-Sputnik, the very first satellite to be launched into space fell back to earth

-Professional designer and artist Gerald Holtom designs the peace symbol

-Elvis Presley becomes Private #53310761 in the United States Army

-The Belgian comics magazine Le Journal de Spirou publishes the first Smurfs cartoon

-NASA is formed by the National Aeronautics and Space Act

-Grandmaster Flash, Ice-T, Madonna, Belinda Carlisle, Michael Jackson, Thomas Dolby, D. Boon, Prince, Jello Biafra, Nikki Sixx, Kate Bush and Mary Chapin Carpenter are born
