Guitar Hero's Top 10 In-Game Hits

Posted Tue Nov 3, 2009 6:25pm PST by Robert of the Radish in The Y! Music Playlist Blog

Tonight as I was getting my two kids ready for bed they broke into song using their toothbrushes as microphones. What song would you expect from a 6-year old and a 4-year old? Hannah Montana? The Wonder Pets? The Wiggles? They Might Be Giants? Nope. They started singing Pat Benatar, and even though they butchered the lyrics ("Hit me with your best shot, from miles away"), they produced a fine rendition of "Hit Me With Your Best Shot".

I was a bit astounded at why they would have pulled a rock staple from 1979 out of the air for their impulsive duet, but as I thought about it, it became clear. The reason was Guitar Hero. My kids have not been exposed to the game very much, but when they did play it the song that stuck with them was "Hit Me With Your Best Shot". At the moment as I watched them singing and pretending to be rock stars, the power of the in-game distribution channel hit me. It's a new world out there for music and with Band Hero on the way my guess is that the genre will continue to grow and be a profitable channel for selling music.

This playlist includes the top 10 in-game hits of the Guitar Hero franchise. And Metallica leaves all others in the dust with 3 spots in the top 10.

What's your favorite Guitar Hero track?

Except for Kryptonite and Du Hast, I agree with this list. Metallica songs do lend themselves to GH for some reason and are the most fun.
