Playlist: Ode To The Firefly

Posted Fri Jun 26, 2009 7:27pm PDT by Robert of the Radish in The Y! Music Playlist Blog

Tonight when we returned from dinner with some friends and neighbors it had just turned dark, and our yard was blinking with hundreds of fireflies. It was the first time my children have experienced such a sight, so we got out the bug habitat and let them run wild catching as many as they could reach. It was one of those magical moments that we all experience sometime in our childhood -- a collective and universal experience that provides fond memories. As I watched the fascination and joy on my children's faces it made me slow down and think about how wonderful life can be. As they say, the best things in life are indeed, free. As summer arrives take some time to catch fireflies in a jar with your kids. If you don't have kids, catch them for yourself, or put them in a jar, attach a ribbon and give it to someone you love. For me fireflies are a reminder of how fortunate I am and how much beauty surrounds us.

For this playlist I've chosen ten lightning bug inspired songs that convey the magic that fireflies bring with them every year.
