Michael Jackson's Number One Hits

Posted Thu Jun 25, 2009 7:02pm PDT by Robert of the Radish in The Y! Music Playlist Blog

I was on the road to a meeting late this afternoon when I heard on the radio that Michael Jackson had been rushed to the hospital. When I left the meeting the news had turned to "Michael Jackson, Dead at 50". Like most, I was shocked because he was so young, but also because he is such a legend in popular music. There will certainly be many articles written this week about MJ, some will be sterile and concise, some with be lengthy career recaps, and some will be tasteless and cruel. I have always had conflicted views on the man, but the truth is I did not know him. The only thing I can say about Michael Jackson with confidence is that he was a true musical genius and a legendary performer. We watched him grow up before our eyes and we bought more of his albums than any other artist in history. Michael's 1982 album Thriller still holds the distinct honor of being the biggest selling album of all time with well over 100 million units sold worldwide. Something tells me that number will grow further and won't be surpassed anytime soon.

For this playlist I have put in chronological order every solo Michael Jackson song that reached the #1 spot on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. 12 songs in all, and there are many more to find if you consider his duet and group chart-toppers.

Rest in peace Michael, and thanks for the music, it will live longer than any of us.

MJ's passing is so sad, as his lfe seemed sad as well, but his music was terrific. On a side note, I thought the Eagles still have the lead on the best selling album of all time.

Michael was the first man I ever wanted to kiss. And yes I am straight. He will be missed. I wish I had the opportunity to see him in concert. That would have made my memories complete

Paul N...that comment about Michael seemed to come out of nowhere man!

But all jokes aside, as I have stated before, MJ was one of the few pop stars that I actually respected. It's sad to hear of this, as, Robert stated, he died so young.

OMG, MJ was the greatest! I'm 54 and I will always remember his songs while in High School (69-72). "Rock with you" awe yes, I remember singing this to my son (now 30 years young) as he sat in his high chair and I was feeding him baby food! MJ rip, you will be missed. Loving you and your songs forever!

I watched my tv in horror today when I learned of Michaels untimely passing. I grew up with his music when he was a small boy just starting out in the music world. He had such a great voice and all the right moves all through his short life. My heart goes out to him and the family he left behind. He will be forever missed. Thank God he left his great music behind for us to hear him forever. God Bless him, he lived a hard life!

I'm still in shock, I never, no one never expected this to happen. I grew up listening to him with my mom and I as a teen. I went to one of his biggest concert at the Dodger stadium in LA. He will be trully trully missed, I just cried, His music will always be with us from generations to come. R.I.P. Michael Jackson. My heart goes out to the family and kids.

The news of Michael Jacksons' death is not only a great loss to the music world but to the fans and the entertainmet industry as well. Michael will no doubt be misssed but at the same time his music and memories will live on. R.I.P Michael!

13. Robert -
This is very sad. He will be missed. For someone in such good shape to suffer cardiac arrest at a relatively young age is fairly rare. With that said, does anyone else find it strange that his personal doctor was with him at the time of the cardiac arrest? Perhaps he was having problems, such as chest pain, and had called his doctor (which I hope is the case) or perhaps his doctor was there for a more nefarious reason. With the recent celebrity overdoses this second scenario would not surprise me.

This is one of those moments when life shows up and show out. This is a hard pill to swallow, MICHALE JACKSON GONE!, "say it is not so."... but the choice has already been made for us and there is nothing we can do about it , because GOD is in control.....oooooh don't his music sound so good on the radio, all i can do is smile, clap, snap and tap my feet and sing along.......we will miss the body, but his spirit will live forever in our hearts through his music....... I remember being in grade school, and Michale Jackson was mine/ and all the girls (first love ) .......
R.I.P...M.J.....my prayers goes out to his family and friends.....

p.s. REMEMBER TO ENCOURAGE SOMEONE TODAY TO BE THE BEST THEY CAN BE, BECAUSE LIFE IS TOO SHORT TO WASTE....

He was at one time one of the greatest. Something happened that changed him into that "thing" he'd become. He was also a low-life pedophile who should've been sentenced to the darkest hole in the U.S.

I loved MJ and it made me sad to learn of his passing earlier today. My cousin and I used to always dance around and sing to his music when we where younger. My cousin could moonwalk just like him. He has always been one of my favorites. He will continue to live on in my heart and the hearts of many others that he has touched with his music. RIP Michael we love you!
