Today's Top Song Downloads at Amazon.com

I am one of those people who still like to buy CDs as opposed to MP3s or other digital music file formats. It's not that I'm against digital music files, in fact, it's all I really use. I take my iPod or Sansa on the road and use my Sonos to stream MP3s in my home. The reason I still choose to buy the physical CD and rip the music myself is simple. A CD is a great backup and includes all the art, lyrics and liner notes. In the future when some great new digital music format is born I will still have my CDs and can re-rip from the original source thus preventing loss.

When I buy an MP3 album I'm giving up a physical copy, artwork and liner notes for instant gratification. That's ok with me.

The newest phase in digital music is a movement away from files locked up with DRM to unprotected MP3s. For this playlist I checked out Amazon.com's MP3 song download chart to see what the biggest sellers were today. And I must admit, the Depeche Mode is the only one worthy of my hard drive space.

black eyed peas, lady gaga, and miley cyrus have been on that list for ages.

Charice's song on number 2. I heard the song on oprah. If this song survives the top 100 chart for 3 to 4 months, I can say its probably the return of the power ballads.

2. Karen -
I finally got to hear what Lady Gaga sounds like. Sorry...not so impressed.
