Best Post Year 2000 Songs By Classic Rock Bands

Posted Sun May 17, 2009 6:08pm PDT by Robert of the Radish in The Y! Music Playlist Blog

What I consider to be the "classic rock era" is a period of time that began in the 60s, peaked in the 70s, and died in the 80s. It was a great time for rock music and forged many artists into icons. Unfortunately, many of the best bands from this golden age broke up never to reunite and produce new material (The Beatles, Led Zeppelin). Some burned bright, but died too young (Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin), while others continued to release albums, but without the spark of earlier work (Cheap Trick, Eric Clapton). For this playlist I looked at truly iconic classic rock bands that are still making great new music in the 21st century. It includes 14 songs that I feel represent the best of what classic rock artists have produced post year 2000.

What classic rock bands do you think are still kicking it today?

Santana has been great in that he has made music that is easy to listen to as well as being memorable, especially over the last 15 years, while maintaining his distinctive quality sound over his whole career.

I love almost all of Aerosmith's "post year 2000 songs". They're awesome! And yes, I agree that Skynyrd has some great post 2000 songs also. The album "Vicious Cycle" has some very good songs on it.

10. Karen -
You obviously haven't heard "Illume" or "Peacekeeper" by Fleetwood Mac.

11. Paul -
Don't forget every track on Journey's newest, Revelation. Or several of the tracks on AC/DC's Black Ice. Or Queen +Paul Rodgers' Cosmos Rocks. And Paul Stanley's solo album, Live To Win was very good, too.

I guess no one gives up the respect for RUSH. Kinda hard to believe.
