The Wisdom of Martin Luther King Jr.

Posted Mon Jan 19, 2009 11:00am PST by Robert of the Radish in The Y! Music Playlist Blog

If you would like to listen to a playlist of great songs inspired by Martin Luther King Jr. please be sure to check out the playlist I put together last year.

This year, instead of creating another list of songs by musicians paying homage to MLK, I thought it would be a better tribute to provide a list of his words as spoken by himself.

Martin Luther King day is an excellent time to revisit the recordings of Dr. King. Most of us understand the history and importance of the man, and how without him, we would be living in a much different country. But when you take the time to just sit down and listen to his speeches he comes back to life. There is no doubt that Martin Luther King is one of the most inspiring and competent speakers in history, and his words never fail to produce chills and revelation.

As you listen to him speak, one thing that will strike you is how pertinent his words are, not just to the civil rights movement of the past, but how his timeless wisdom can be applied today and in the future.

If you haven't listened to Martin Luther King speak for awhile please take some time right now to listen to the speeches in this list. It will make clear the importance of today's holiday more than any song or parade could ever do.
