Top 10 Downloaded Songs In Canada

Posted Thu Jan 15, 2009 4:16am PST by Robert of the Radish in The Y! Music Playlist Blog

Our friends from the Great White North have a fine reputation for appreciating good music. There's currently a lot of great rock, indie music and even hip-hop coming out of Canada. And of course we're all aware of Neil Young, Joni Mitchell and Rush. The only bones I can think of to pick with Canada have to do with Nickelback and Bryan Adams.

As I was thinking about Canadian musicians I began to think about Canadian music fans. Are they really as tragically hip as they seem?

To find the truth I checked out the iTunes download chart for Canada. The following songs are currently the most downloaded by our neighbors to the North.

As you can see from the songs below, Canada's musical tastes are almost in lock-step with the U.S. Unfortunately, that means almost universally bad.

Top 10 Downloaded Songs In Canada

   1. Poker Face - Lady GaGa

   2. I Hate This Part - Pussycat Dolls

   3. Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It) - Beyonce

   4. Circus - Britney Spears

   5. Right Now (Na Na Na) - Akon

   6. I'm Yours - Jason Mraz

   7. Hot N Cold - Katy Perry

   8. Love Lockdown - Kanye West

All seem to me to be corpra pop industry driven drivel thats as wimpy, safe and as non effensive as it can get. Most of them never write the songs or play instruments very well. It's all about the money now.No longer is it about the music, just cash flow.

I share mutual feelings with these charts, Rob.

Its more or less the same as here...except...for the pussycat dolls...I think...

C'mmon Canada! Pussycat dolls can't sing, and Single Ladies is such an annoying song.
As for Kate Perry, she is just a novelty thing that people bought. Ugh...

Universally bad indeed.

I am not surprised that these songs sre the top ones there but COME ON! these songs are so 'popular', they play way too much on the radio and where ever else. It just gets tiring. Give me a break.

I live in Canada, and I personally don't like any of these songs. Lady Gaga creases me, and the Pussycat Dolls are just...atrocious.
