Jazz Remixed

A remix is an alternate audio mix of a song that distinctly changes it from the original version. It's done through use of editing and may incorporate elements of dance music. Remixers often create an upbeat version of a song for playing by disc jockeys in nightclubs. But a remix can also simply put a fresh or modern spin on a classic track. This can invite the ire of purists, but can also help attract new fans that may not have been familiar with the genre being reworked.

If there is any music that truly deserves new fans, it's jazz. This is a genre that is outsold by almost every other genre out there except maybe new age and spoken word. Yet for someone to be considered even a mediocre jazz musician takes the kind of virtuosity that only decades of dedicated practice can produce. The best practitioners of jazz have both impressive technical ability and exceptional creativity.

This playlist features remixes of jazz greats like Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, Nina Simone, Cal Tjader, Billie Holiday, Archie Shepp, Charles Mingus, Charlie Parker, George Benson and more. So if you're not a jazz fan my hope is that these remixes may pique your interest.
