IDOL SPOILER ALERT: David Cook Wins!

Posted Wed May 21, 2008 7:02pm PDT by Lyndsey Parker in Reality Rocks

Hey everyone...I'm at the Nokia Theater right now, so I won't be able to blog in detail about the American Idol finale until later tonight. But here's the one piece of vital info you need to know right now, just announced:

DAVID COOK IS YOUR NEW AMERICAN IDOL!

Man, this news just rocks. Literally!

Yes, the unassuming Missouri bartender with no Smithson-style showbiz connections has trumped aggressively hyped/stage-parented Star Search winner David Archuleta. America got it right this time. Thanks for rocking the vote, Idol fans! (And if those Internet rumors are true that this outcome was fixed, well then, I guess thanks to whomever rigged it in Cook's favor...)

I know I said in my earlier blog that I didn't want to David The C to win (ONLY because I was afraid it would ruin his career)...but now that I'm here in the middle of all this celebratory hubbub, I'm pretty pleased with the results. And Cook's career seems pretty intact so far. So huzzah for Cook!

Come back later for a full report on my backstage/red carpet finale experience, but feel free to start posting your comments about the season 7 outcome now, and let me know if you agree that the right David won.

Now please excuse while I go make sure Papa Archuleta doesn't have a total meltdown...

First! My very first comment here ever (and I read this blog everyday). I agree with what Simon said, for the first time ever, I don't care who will win because the Davids really deserves it. Either way, it's not a loss. Throughout the competition they have been the strongest and they were great in their own style.

Then again, I've always been Team Cook. DAVID COOK IS THE AMERICAN IDOL!!!!!

OMG! Really? Wow! Ugh! Hurray! Wow! GEEEES! Super!!!!!!Amazing!!!!!

I totally not expected this though I am happy with the result. David Cook deserves it. He is truly an idol. He's family especially his ill brother for sure are very proud of him. This is a great result, unexpected but worthy. Cook, Cook! The new American Idol.

America got it right. David Cook's performance
with ZZ Top should go down as the greatest
Idol performance ever. Best of Luck David.

I wish David A. won though. He was awesome yesterday and was better than David C.

I am so pleased that he won. I have to admit that I have only caught snippets of the series (I live in Australia) but when I was able to watch he was always a stand out, well apart from Michael Johns. Congrats to DC.

Yay!!!!! I really didn't expect this!! I knew David C was better than David A but thought that David A would win it due to his popularity with the voting teens.

I was shocked, excited and nearly peed my pants screaming and jumping that David C won!!!!

Yeah! he is the true American Idol. Can't wait for his CD. Will be my first AI cd. Gnite all.

this is my first time commenting. I really think the more deserving David won, David C is more well rounded & versatile than David A, plus I think David A has a bit more growing up to do.
Can't wait to see your full report Lyndsey!

I was so afraid after Simon declared Archie the winner last night that for the first time, I had a phone in each hand and double-dialed for two solid hours until I literally passed out. I am so thrilled Cook won! I can't wait to buy his albums. His otherworldly voice gets right into the soul.

19. Thom A -
