Nick Lachey & Vanessa Minnillo, Newlysplit

Posted Thu Jun 25, 2009 9:50am PDT by Lyndsey Parker in Reality Rocks

Nick Lachey once made reality TV history with then-wife Jessica Simpson on MTV's Newlyweds, which famously chronicled the long-suffering trophy husband's attempts to deal with his lovably bubbleheaded wife's inability to differentiate chicken from fish, do laundry, or realize that merchandise in retail stores actually had pricetags attached. Eventually the couple split and the show was cancelled (although I think Newlydivorced would have been a great spinoff).

But Nick got at least one great song out of the ordeal--his hit breakup single, "What's Left Of Me," was far and away better than anything his former missus ever recorded. And he also got a new girlfriend out of the situation, MTV veejay Vanessa Minnillo, whom he met on the set of the "What's Left Of Me" video.

Ironically, Vanessa played the "ex-girlfriend" role in that dramatic clip. And now the video has become a self-fulfilling prophecy, as Nick and Vanessa confirmed today to People magazine, via their respective reps, that their three-year relationship has come to an end.

"They have amicably split but remain good friends who still greatly care for one another," Minnillo's spokesperson announced to the mag. Another source told People that the couple are "still friends" and the breakup was "the right thing for both of them to do."

Oh well. This is too bad, as Nick seems like a good guy to me. Is it possible this eligible bachelor could get his own reality dating show, Nick Of Love? I hope MTV execs are reading this...

I'd watch "Nick of Love"....

I can't believe Vanessa (and Jessica) would throw out a perfectly good man like that! He's just adorable...the poor girl's David Boreanaz, if you will... ;^D
