Jordin Sparks's Fashion Line Is All Wet

Posted Sat Nov 22, 2008 12:36pm PST by Lyndsey Parker in Reality Rocks

Yesterday I reported on the high-end American Idol fashion spread in the new issue of Elle magazine. Now it's time to report about the low-end.

Now, I have nothing against mall shops. H&M, Forever 21, Urban Outfitters, Hot Topic, Delia's, even Target...my closet is stocked with garments from all of these chains. I honestly do not believe anyone needs to buy the pricey designer duds in Elle to look fabulous. But the new Jordin Sparks-designed fashion line for Wet Seal--hitting stores in time for the holiday season--is hideous.

Suffice to say if any American Idol contestant wore Jordin's Wet Seal dresses on the show, Simon would tear her a new buttonhole. Blech, blech, blech.

"I am so excited that Wet Seal and I have been able to create a line of clothing that will appeal to more girls than ever before! The holiday season is my favorite time of year, and I can't wait to see girls look cute, feel good and celebrate in style!" Jordin Sparks gushes unconvincingly in a Wet Seal press release.

But Jordin's statement only rings true if by "cute" she means "cheap" (the fabrics look chintzy and downright flammable, even by Wet Seal standards), and by "feel good" she means "wedge one's body into shapes even more uncomfortable and unflattering than Ramiele Malubay's infamous high-waisted shorts."

Additionally, and oddly, many of the garments in the "Sparks" Wet Seal line look kind of slutty, which is odd considering Jordin's own very public vow of chastity. (Remember her "Not everyone wants to be a slut!" outburst at the 2008 VMAs?) None of these outfits would look appropriate accessorized by a purity ring.

Wet Seal exec Ed Thomas disagrees, declaring in the aforementioned press release, "Jordin is a great role model for the young girls that shop Wet Seal. Not only does she have a youthful, yet refined, fashion sense, she has not lost sight of who she is through her rise to stardom." (Sorry, Ed, but I say she's lost sight of what actually is suitable wear out of the house.)

You can view--and, if you dare, purchase--Jordin's 12 new party dresses HERE.

The dresses are not as bad as the report says they are...nor slutty. Just not high quality, which should be expected since its for Wet Seal. And no, I'm not a full-figured girl defending my girls...

3. Lyndsey Parker -
FYI, the dresses are not just for full-figured girls. They run XS-XL. I just happen to think they are unattrative at any size.

4. torontolass -
price point is good for the young woman who is in budget and the style is not bad ...
yYu have to remember we, women always shop and might use these kind and style of clothes maybe 2-4 times at most and then buy a new one again. Not a loss considering they have interesting combinations which makes the style more appealing to the less moneyed crowd with love for dresses.

5. kadyra -
They are not well designed, well sewn or anything. They are hideous.

6. starzzbabii -
I think those dresses are actually pretty cute, their just not as nice as Dereon, Baby Phat, or Gwattii's. I think they'd actually be pretty nice for taking out the trash on thursday's :D

7. starzzbabii -
if i was to pick between wearing one of those dresses and wearing a dog, id pick the dog.

Jordin Sparks is a good singer. But a line of clothing inspired by her was hideous. She looks too old in the dresses and it didnt portray any of her good spirit. It really sucks!

HATERS! THERE BEAUTIFUL,. ALL HATERS u must weigh 45 pounds fake breast! DONT HATE EAT AND YOU WONT BE SO HATEFUL!

12. s p -
I see nothing wrong with them. It's like any other line......some are good, some are ok, some are not as good. Slutty.........definitely not. Which just takes away from the article altogether.

13. LORIGIRL -
i just took a look at her line and it is a nice little collection. and thiose of you who say it look cheap, come on do you know what cheap clothes look like? good for jordan.

I find it ironic that you can buy her "panties" and yet in one quote she says "Not everyone wants to be a slut!".

I'm wondering if tommorow they will have blogs on queen and freddie mercury because he (and the rest of queen) had a major influence on music not as big as the beatles obviously but still is major. And tommorow he will have been dead 17 years. He took good music with him "its strange but its true."(I want to break free)

Alright I'm being cruel to my favorite band they were(and still are) all good musicains but they only can work at half capacity (3/4's if you count Pual Rodger but he is not Deacon or Mercury). However "The Call" and say its not true are pretty good!

P.S. And to beat you to the gun before anyone else spams me with grammatical errors I meant to say will be for comment 16.

Lyndsey, that's cause Jordin sucks! Blake should have won! lol..

Does every celebrity need a fashion line today? They have already engulfed purfume stores, cosmetic departments and my television.

Here's one; "Clothes" - for people who wish not to be naked.

18. MG -
You could be a little more fair here. Some of them are a little garish, but the basic-looking ones aren't that bad if you accessorize them. The silhouettes are nice and will work for more than just one body type. They'll work for girls who are on a budget, although....polyester, Jordin, jeez!

*My eyes* some1 get me a doctor*they have been ruined by those cloths of rags I tried looking at to see if they were worth commenting on* hello? Any1 out there??I can't see(actually I don't want to see anymore of her styles lol) If I was a size 2134 maybe but.....

20. Arnie -
Jordin's is a great girl to like at,but need's to lose some pounds a.s.a.p. or she will look like "raven simone" in a year or so. Her music "SUCKS", need more "SOUL" not teenie bobber crap!!!!! Have enough of that out there with "High School musical and Hanana Montana CRAP"..

For tenor from Malta, a star-making role?

AP
Thu Nov 26, 2009 12:01am PST

AP - There's something about the honeyed sweetness of Joseph Calleja's voice that seems to evoke memories of a golden age, as if this young tenor carried within his vocal cords a secret passed down from bygone generation… More »
