Chris Brown Responds To Rihanna's Tell All TV Interview

Posted Fri Nov 6, 2009 6:51pm PST by Billy Johnson, Jr. in Hip-Hop Media Training

Chris Brown released a statement to MTV today, responding to Rihanna's tell all interview with Diane Sawyer that has revealed the details and motivation of his February 8 felony assault.

"I do appreciate her support and wish her the best. I am extremely sorry for what I did, and I accept accountability for my actions. At this point, I am taking the proper steps to learn about me and grow from my mistakes. I only hope that others in similar situations can learn from our experience as well. Abuse of any kind is always wrong. The rest I leave it to God."

It is today's segment of Rihanna's "Good Morning America" interview with Diane Sawyer that prompted Chris' response.

Rihanna gave Diane her account of what happened in the car after the former couple left Clive Davis' annual Grammy party.

Rihanna revealed that Chris received a text message from another girl and when she confronted him about it, he lied. As they argued about the text message, the exchange escalated into Chris' violent outburst.

Rihanna said that Chris looked as if he had blacked out while he was hitting her. "He had no soul, just blank," Rihanna said. "There was no person when I looked at him."

Rihanna said her only option for getting home was to walk. "I was bleeding. I was swollen in my face," she said. "My next option was to get out of the car and start walking in a gown and a bloody face."

The rest of Diane's interview will air tonight on "20/20." Rihanna will share more details of the incident.

Rihanna's emotional account of the ordeal will clearly spark further backlash for Chris.

Chris has had some detractors since the attack, but those numbers are going to increase now that the victim has come forward and shared her account of what transpired.

In order for Chris to get past this tragedy, he needs to uphold what he claims in the statement. He does not need to engage in his own candid interviews in an attempt to get back at Rihanna.

He simply needs to be apologetic, and to uphold his court orders of probation, community labor and counseling.

How much in love can you be with each other when he accepts a call from someone he can't tell you about. Are "WE" in love or is she in love? There is a big difference and as women we have got to know the difference.

Andy W.- he apologized, true. but he beat her up! there's no excuse for that!
Yahoo! Music user- exactly, if there was nothing to hide, he should've had no trouble talking to her about it.

It took a lot for her to open up, glad you got through it Rihanna. :)

I don't like when a man hits a woman, but come on she was with him in Mexico about a month ago. Most women who are in those kinds of relatitionships live it the person and fear for their life. It funny she comes out with this a week before her CD is bout to drop. I think it't more pursure from her busniess side the life then just her life.

4. cutiepie_forever22 -
i dont believe u andy w. how can u say that she is simply giving her side of the story. this woman been through hell imagine if that was your mother, sister or aunt or any female u cared about she did not put him down at all.... i cant understand why people are so ignorant about this smh

5. Matt -
Funny how she left out the part where she was the one who initially got violent with him over that text message.

6. vinnie 007 -
i agree with chris..its a private matter..shes only making it worse for both of them..chis is a low life jerk as we all know it but and i think she is just promoting herself with her new album..no guy is ever gonna want to date her now..this is a sad ending for them both

andy, you're a complete idiot. He didn't just simply smack her. He ASSAULTED her. You should be thanking your black man for living up to the stereotype. Abuse in relationships, be it man on woman, woman on man, man on man, woman on woman, whatever, needs to stop, and it needs to have HUGE repercussions when public figures commit such abuse. Chris Brown deserves all the heat he is getting. However, since he is attempting to atone for his stupidity, he should be forgiven and the public will. In the meantime though, he should be hurting.

people r saying now that she did that to herself. if that (happens to be the case) is true, people would obviously side with the woman due to stereotypes against males with a stronger build. chris brown is also said to no longer be singing, but rihanna has no issue whatsoever about her career, or talking about this in as much detail as possible. i mean, if the man did beat her, as if he isn't sorry enough, now shes causing more problems for him by constantly bringing it up. he couldn't even enjoy fearfest at kings dominion, he wanted to just be a guy at the park, but all this crap can't let him even try to be a regular guy, cuz people know his face. i think shes doing this on purpose.let the man be, it's hard enough apologizing over and over and over wothout new things to bring to his guilt. peopel really need to let up, hes doing what the court order has set for him. i think thats enough to show hes serious.

9. wiseone -
Andy, you must beat on women to say something so ignorant. He should be viciously put down for putting his hands on a woman PERIOD, POINT BLANK!!!!!!

10. DMESSIAH12212 -
man please now she just low by comin out now the guy is trying to bring his career back together and now this

11. Yahoo! Music User -
Yeah Rihanna it was a bad event. But what i dont understand is how you wait until the media die down, then all of a sudden you are ready to do a tell all story. Rihanna as a black woman please learn to conduct your private life a little better. Maybe Beyonce can give you a few pointers. I definitely think you are trying to milk the world for support of you upcoming album.

12. DMESSIAH12212 -
LOVE has nothing to do with who you want to sleep with
so number three just leave it alone

13. hotmomma -
i guees if yor rich u can do whatever u want.

14. mike -
dude cracks me up when he (andy w) said..."there goes another black woman viciously putting down a black ,a man that made a mistake and apologized."...lol......man he beat her up...doesnt matter what color he is.....she told what happened...he got convicted for it...she wasnt busting him or trashing him....HE DID IT!!!...but i also agree.....her album is about to come out and now she breaks her silence....guess you have to know how to market your product!!!

15. Nigel -
I think that he got off waaayyyy to easy! He should face the music like anyone else who commits a crime like that. I'm tired of people sayin "he made a mistake." A mistake is unintentional....like breaking a nail or forgetting milk at the store, not BEATING UP ANOTHER PERSON!

16. Jeremy P -
How can he still put out statements about the issue? He is completely at fault, the games/game eventually caught up with him. Sounds like fun, does it not? Fortunately for Rihanna the court ordered Chris Brown to stay away from her, because it was just a matter of time before she put her self back in that "Bobby and Whitney situation".

17. Yahoo! Music User -
if it happends once it will be easier the next time ! sometimes sorry dosent heal .it should never lead to hands on from either side . If you living like that you should bounce theres always someone else out there who gives a f*#k

18. Lorena -
i also hate the fact that men hit women
they all take advatage of us women
just cuz we are less strong than them...
i dont even knw who to believe
there has to be a good reason
for Chris' action..

19. palecopper -
Abusers rely on the stance of 'A Private Matter'. They have no remorse for the act of violence. Only the consequence. He does not respect her or feel God in his life. He is a boy posturing and parroting what the PR staff wrote for him.

20. moldyoly -
Beating a woman to the point that she is bleeding and physically bruised and broken is more than just "making a mistake". People don't face possible jail time for just making mistakes. He was a man who could not control himself and assaulted a woman instead of walking away from the situation. Chris Brown needs to man up and accept the consequences of his actions. That's not a black woman being cruel to a black man....that's being an adult and dealing with adult situations.
