Usher's Divorce 'Papers' Final Today

Posted Fri Nov 6, 2009 1:25pm PST by Billy Johnson, Jr. in Hip-Hop Media Training

Today, Usher's divorce from Tameka Raymond is final.

The pop superstar and Foster were married for two years and have two children.

On one hand, I want to scoff at another celeb marriage biting the dust. From the outside looking in, you can't help but wonder how seriously the marriage was taken in the first place.

I mean, if your spouse is so intolerable that you can't endure being married to them for longer than two years...maybe you should have waited before having two children.

Yes, I know it's not so simple. I don't know why Usher filed to end the union. According to an AP report, Usher claimed the marriage was "irretrievably broken" and any hope of "reconciliation" was not likely.

Celebs aren't the only ones contributing to our nation's high divorce rate.

I am annoyed though by Usher's new song "Papers" that takes a call and response approach to discussing breakups. In the song written by Sean Garrett, Usher lists several problems in his marriage.

He talks about almost ruining his relationship with his mother, loosing himself, and being tired of sleeping in the other room. Honestly, most artists sing about personal experiences. It's basically what Usher did with his 10 million plus selling "Confessions" album, but this just feels way too opportunistic for me.

I mean, did it really need a chant urging fellow unhappily married people to sing along?

"All my fellas up in here if you've had enough and you're ready to sign say, ‘Ready, ready, ready'."

"All my ladies if you're sick and tired and you're ready to sign say, ‘Ready, ready, ready'."

I can't take the song seriously.

I hope his kids, Usher Raymond V and Naviyd Ely, are okay.

Remember it is always about spiritual warfare and you must keep balance in all. Therefore, SOMEONE has to be mature enough to fight and pray while in this war. Pray is what changes things for the better, not complaining or running away from the problem-"having done all STAND". The artist I will always appreciate, but the person behind the talent I will pray for his healing and his strength toward his future endeavors. Love, your Sister in Christ

"Another one bites the dust!!" Lord, and people wonder why I'm single. I refuse to rush into what everyone else seems to be getting the hell out of. I respect marriage but...2 years? Almost caused you to go against your mother? Two kids!? Usher, you are in for some "baby mama drama!" Bro, trust me. It ain't over. You got some SERIOUS child support to pay. If you think you have seen the last of that B*tch, Usher get real. You should have listened to your mama about her, but you were to busy thinking with the "wrong head". I ain't mad at ya..I know she put the that "whip appeal" on you. She had her eyes on your wallet. Good luck Usher. This is my confession.

I hate the song. I think its dumb. I understand its his own opion but who puts their business out publically like dat. I feel bad for his wife. Or maybe the reason i hate it is because my roomates listen to it on repeat while I'm trying to F***ing sleep. Shrug

I am in total agreement with my boy Usher live is to short to sweat the small stuff....If she was NOT doing her part as a wife then she needed to bounce....as far as the children they will be fine because Usher has a wonderful kind, loving spirit which will be share and showed to his boys

Why did he ever marry that old cougar? He already had a mother and didn't need another. He should have listened to his mother and not marry her in the first place. Sometimes parents give advice because they see what is ahead and try and warn their children of danger. I hope he has learned a very valuable lesson and I hope he steps up and stays in his children's lives. She got what she wanted, an heir and a spare.

Yep she was way too old for him, and he was too young for her. Live and learn. Sometime you have to pay for your education, when you accept it for free. Good luck to both Usher and Tameka, and may the boys have a great childhood. Peace.
