Ashanti, Framed

Posted Mon Jun 23, 2008 12:31pm PDT by John Kordosh in Framed
Few pop stars have had the impact of Ashanti Douglas. Recognized as "The Princess of Hip-Hop and R&B," the talented songstress has won a Grammy and a slew of other honors, including three American Music Awards, eight Billboard Music Awards, two ASCAP Music Awards, and two Teen Choice Awards. She's also a songwriter, a published poet, a dancer, a model, and a fashion designer.

This week's video is "The Way That I Love You", hot off of her new album, The Declaration. We must confess that it's somewhat disturbing, as it deals with Ashanti's murder of her faithless lover in fairly gory detail. That it turns out to be (astonishingly) a mere fantasy, and not an actual documentary, as we first hoped, mitigates its impact only slightly. Moms and dads may want to impose an age limit on our younger Framed readers.

As is our sacred oath, we really want to know what you think, so please let us know. Has Ashanti gone too far? Or, in fact, has she not gone far enough? Should girls emulate her and actually kill their straying boyfriends? Or is that a bad idea?

Important blog note! Everybody's talkin' 'bout Framed, as they should! This week's shout-out comes from the Elliott Yamin-centric website, Yaminions, who note us as one of the "interesting blogs regarding Elliott." They speak, of course, of our prize-winning March 7th entry, in which we brought our take on E.Y.'s "Wait For You." You'll want to read all about it at http://www.yaminions.com/index.php?blogid=3&archive=2008-03

Um... "Yaminions?"

Really??

1 - "Check it out. Incredibly, people are still reading Framed!"

2 - "I swear to you, Flipper...I know nothing of Pelican Pete's fate!"

3 - Remember, girls: falling in love with two-dimensional, big-headed men can only lead to grief.

4 - "Shall I kill him with a knife or with a spirited blend of seasonings?? You make the call, readers!"

5 - "Rubber ducky, joys of joys...when I squeak you, you make noise."

6 - The She-Hulk's ability to move planets is now just a distant memory!

7 - Discovering the area codes for Hill, CA, Green, GA and State, UT--all long shrouded in mystery--makes reading another Framed more than worthwhile!

8 - The Annual Knives of the Future Convention is always "cutting-edge!"

9 - Stubbornly, the Fimbulwinter refused to be summoned!

10 - "...and, in other news, the President did sign the ‘Make A Lousy Video, Serve Time' legislation..."

11 - "What's that, Mr. Wall? You'll have to speak up; I can't hear you. What's the mortar?"

12 - Science has now declared that "waterless dishwashing" is the next big step in hygiene!

Yes, I think she has I know she could had came with a better way to set an example. We have so many people out here doing the copy cat thing thinking that they can do the samething and blame it on the singer or rapper to get away with it. There are so many teens out here getting hurt in relationships then here she goes, I think they should take it off and give a chance to do it over and prove thats not the right way to go about it.

I notice a lot of people always jumping on Ashanti.the girl is doing her things and a video is a video.shes not really setting a bad example. girl keeping doing ur thing

If you pay attention she does not go through with any illegal actions, nor is her actions promoting anything other than taking a long bath and rethinking, reevaluating, regrouping of her emotions. Which is a responsible decision before taking any actions, stop looking for someone to blame for the actions of others; it is a video for entertainment purposes only!!!

I think the video is direct and to the point and she's trying new things which is what she's suppose to do as an artist. I hope people realize that this is fiction and don't take it serious, it's just for entertainment purposes.

Stop hate'n it'z just a song, for entertaiment purposes!!Let my girl do her thang cuz in reality things do happen that way"REAL TALK"!!!!Would other artist's get the same critisism if they made a video like hers???

I love the video. No she hasn't gone to far. The video is great, like a short movie. So many other entertainers used their sexuality in video's until, it should be rated R. Case in point:female artist like Beyonce shake everything and make a video with Jay-Z and bend backwards. what about that. Maybe Ashanti should hire her PR person?

That video gave me the creeps! What kind of example is she setting for people in relationships! At first I actually thought she did it!!!!

This video is def not going to be played on MTV. Jez. Nice song but she could of left out all of the drama and murder images.

I'm not a hata but the song sucks n the video. I don't think she can sing. Her first cd was actually good, however the albums after that is trash.
